I may have done more posts on EELS than any other single band. (Most recent post: here.) So, I am wicked excited to announce this giveaway.
The eels are coming out with two retrospective albums. The first, titled Meet The EELS: Essential EELS Vol. 1, is a CD/DVD that, as you might guess, is a best of: 24 tracks and 12 videos. The second, titled Useless Trinkets: B-Sides, Soundtracks, Rarities and Unreleased 1996-2006 is two CDs and a DVD of, as you might have guessed, rare tracks. And you can get ’em both, just for being a reader of this blog.
For full track lists and more info, go here (although why you’d need any more info is beyond me!)
Now, this ain’t gonna be cheap. You’re gonna have to earn it. Send me e-mail or a comment with your e-mail address and the name of your favorite EELS song. Winner will be picked (at random) in about a week and must must MUST check their e-mail every day to get my message that they’ve won. Or else, I’ll pick someone else.
Dig it?
Okay.
Now, listen to these cool EELS tunes (not from either album) and get to commentin’ or e-mailin’!
Brave Little Soldier
Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover (Sophie B Hawkins)
Crazy Love (Willie Dixon cover, live version)
It’s probably cliche, but “Packing Blankets” is my favorite. It’s just a great tune. /Tony theblastfurnace [at] gmail [dot] com
My favorite song by them is P.S. You Rock My World.
I like “Mr. E’s Beautiful Blues” from the Roadtrip Soundtrack. Such a great tune hiding among otherwise forgettable songs.
“It’s a Mother Fucker” from Daisies of the Galaxy has gotten me through some some crappy times.
Title of the song pretty much sums it up.
Gotta say Trouble With Dreams, so eerie and reminiscent of the fucked-up half-life dead zone you get into when wrestling with sleep, dreams and insomnia. Brilliant.
This is like asking Homer Simpson to pick his favorite type of donut: it’s so difficult to choose just one when they are all so tasty. I’m going off the board– or out of the donut box– and picking “Bus Stop Boxer.” It was the first song I played when I got my computer, that must mean something. Plus, I used to see this guy running through the streets of Portland, shirtless, sparring some invisible opponent, nearly everyday. I always wondered about that dude. This song reminds me of him and his mysterious pugilistic routine/mission.
I’d say “Something Is Sacred” is my favorite Eels song, even though they have mastered non-sappy-love-ballads-without-so-much-love-in-’em. But Glory. So much glory.
“Hey Man” from Blinking Lights and Other Revelations .
“Cheater Guide to Your Heart” is my favorite eels songs. Heard it on a Black Session a while back. Can’t believe it’s only seeing the light of day now. Great, great song.

I always liked “Abortion in the Sky” from the “Oh What A Beautiful Morning” live LP, if only for the title…but my favorite might be “3 Speed.” Or “Saturday Morning.” Or “What Is This Note?” Or “Rock Hard Times.”
To all of you who didn’t leave an e-mail: That was clearly part of the deal here. I won’t warn you again!
hallo there!my favorite EELS track is souljacker pt1,i think it’s a great tune!rock n’ roll greetings from greece!kostas
Tough choices, but I’d probably pick “Fresh Feeling” as 1a and “It’s a Motherfucker” as 1b. Really difficult to pick. So many great songs.
Like my boxers, this is something that i change a lot. Is there a bad track on Souljacker? i’m thinking “no.” Same goes for damn near all of Shootenanny and Beautiful Freak. While i usually point out “Birds” as my fave, for whatever reason, i’ve been kind of addicted to “Dog Faced Boy” of late, perhaps because it’s wintertime and i’m in the midst of beard season. So let’s go w/ that one.

My little sister and I love rocking out to “My Beloved Monster” from the Shrek soundtrack. There’s actually a few really good tunes on there, but that’s the one we always turn up way too loud.
Tough choice, some many brilliant songs to choose from. If I must, I gotta go with Your Lucky Day in Hell or I’m Going to Stop Pretending That I Didn’t Break Your Heart. Both songs are ever so subtle, yet quite powerful, but for different reasons.

Ok, the above post should read “so” rather than “some.”
“I Like Birds”, from Daisies of the Galaxy, is an outstanding driving song, and my favorite.
Gotta be It’s A Motherfucker or Climbing Up To The Moon
Manchild. Easily.
But If You See Natalie is pretty awesome as well. Honestly, been a fan since I first heard Novacaine for the Soul during its early radio play days, have every album since. =) Sweet band.
Any shitty day you’ll ever had can be cured by getting in the car and cranking the hell out of Mr. E’s Beautiful Blues…if singing “Goddamn right it’s a beatiful day.” doesn’t make you feel better, my heart cries out for you!

Mr E’s Beautiful Blues for me. Inextricably linked to the birth of my daughter 🙂
I’ve always been rather partial to Dog Faced Boy myself.
I must go with My Beloved Monster, but it’s so hard to choose.
My favorite eels song has to ” Her ” It’s a b-side from the Saturday Morning. I still wonder how this painfully beautiful ended up as a b-side.
I’ve tried more than once to make a mix tape to get friends into the EELS… Never once have I been able to distill a definitive mix to a size that fits on a single CD…
That said, my favorite has to be Skywriting off of the Levity soundtrack. Or maybe Railroad Man from Blinking Lights… Classic EELS. This is hard.
My favorite song is Suicide Life. I like it depressing what can I say!
How is it that no one mentioned “Things the Grandchildren Should Know”? I have many favorite Eeels songs, but this song is the most profound and my most favorite.
Got to be Last Stop This Town, though in fairness it could be most of the others.
I’d have to say…”Dirty Girl”. So sad, but it always makes me smile.
boy, let’s see. just one? how ’bout “Flower” if only for that amazing heavenly electronic chorus that sets the pace from the start.
i like your blog. thanks for all of your hard work!
ooohhh; ‘manchester girl’ is certainly my favorite. Nice piano, nice emotions …
