JOE STRUMMER AND THE LATINO ROCKABILLY WAR-8/5/88

For today’s Clash fix, Joe Strummer & The Latino Rockabilly War, Manchester International II England, August 5, 1988. A pretty good audience boot with lots of banter. This is from a low point in Joe’s solo career and life, and there’s a few oddities and curiousities here. For example, it’s the only time I’ve heard a live Sightsee MC. Not one of Joe’s best, and about as close as he ever came to rap. It makes me happy it was Mick who went hip hop. The set also includes Love Kills, the Sid And Nancy Soundtrack cut, and several sing-a-longs (particularly on Straight to Hell, which also features some great guitar-and-bongo interplay). But the biggest standout: A great rock-a-billy version of the Pogues standard, If I Should Fall From Grace of God.

As always, a few tastes and a zip.
